Consultant Urological Surgeon
Mr Thilagarajah is a Consultant Urological Surgeon, based in Chelmsford, who specialises in prostate and bladder disorders, stone disease and cancers of both the kidneys and prostate.
Following his training at Charing Cross Hospital and Westminster Medical School, Mr Thilagarajah went on to attain a Master of Surgery Degree at Imperial College School of Medicine, investigating the causes, diagnosis and treatment of painful bladder disease and interstitial cystitis. In 2001, he achieved recognition on the Specialist Register for Urology (CCST), the FRCS (Urol).
Mr Thilagarajah then furthered his training as a Laparoscopic Urological Surgeon as Urology Senior Fellow at Alexandra Hospital, Brisbane, Australia. On his return to the UK, Mr Thilagarajah received specialist training in stone surgery at the Institute of Urology at Middlesex Hospital before being appointed Consultant Urological Surgeon at Mid Essex Health Services NHS Trust.
Mr Thilagarajah was Clinical Lead in Urology until 2012 and remains the Robotic Surgery Services Clinical Lead for Broomfield Hospital. He assisted in the creation of the Robotic Kidney Service in his role as Honorary Consultant Urological Surgeon at the Royal Marsden Hospital.
Mr Thilagarajah was instrumental in the initiation of the GreenLight laser prostate service at Broomfield Hospital, winner of an NHS Innovations award in 2005.
Mr Thilagarajahâ€™s pastimes range from the positively sedate, namely his love of gardening and rallying in very old cars, to the positively dangerous - indulging his penchant for winter sports. He completed the Monte Carlo Rallye Historique in 2008 as part of the Broomfield Laser Charitable Appeal which raised over Â£220,000 for laser equipment.
