Breast Implant Exchange involves removing implants from previous breast augmentation surgery and replacing them with new ones. The procedure is usually accompanied by a breast uplift (mastopexy)
You may require this surgery for cosmetic reasons, if you are not happy with breast augmentation you have previously had. You may have also experienced damage to the implant which may be causing you discomfort and so require the surgery for medical reasons. You should contact Baddow Hospital to speak to one of our trusted consultants who will provide guidance and answer any questions, before making the decision to undergo surgery. You should consider what look you are trying to achieve and the reasons you wish to have an implant exchange.

Much of the stages of a breast implant exchange are like breast augmentation surgery. It is usually performed under a general anaesthetic, taking between 1-2 hours, accompanied with an overnight stay. Your consultant will usually re-open the scar form your breast augmentation surgery, possibly having to make more space for the implant to improve the appearance of your breasts.
Recovery time from a breast implant exchange is usually slightly quicker than initial breast augmentation surgery due to the breast tissue having already been stretched. Normal activities can usually be resumed in 4-5 weeks.
Breast implant exchange carries some risk, like other surgeries, of the patient experiencing infection, reactions to the general anaesthetic and bleeding. These are usually minor, but if you do have any worries, you should make sure to get back in contact with Baddow Hospital who will be happy to reassure and help you.
