While we offer various forms of birth control, Mirena® IUS is a specific treatment option available at Baddow Hospital.
Mirena® is an intrauterine system (IUS) which is placed inside the womb (uterus), where it slowly releases the hormone levonorgestrel, a form of progesterone. It can be used as an effective, long-acting and reversible method of contraception for up to five years. It also reduces menstrual blood flow so is worth considering if you suffer from heavy periods.
If you are going through the menopause, Mirena® can be used in conjunction with oestrogen as part of a hormone replacement therapy (HRT) regime to protect the lining of your womb.
