Femoral hernias are much more common in women than men. Femoral hernias are found lower down and generally have a more roundish appearance. They can be mistaken for enlarged lymph nodes or, sometimes, varicosities in varicose veins.
Femoral Hernia Surgery
Because femoral hernias have a narrow neck, a small piece of bowel can become trapped, causing strangulation – this requires emergency surgery. Consequently, femoral hernias should be fixed, even if there are no initial pain symptoms.
