Liposuction Surgery or ‘Lipo’ is a fat removal, body reshaping procedure which removes the fatty deposits which often occur on the tummy, hips, buttocks, thighs, knees, breasts (male) and chin and which refuse to disappear with diet and exercise. It is often referred to as liposculpture as it can help sculpt the body, resulting in a more defined shape.
Liposuction Surgery is a cosmetic surgery procedure that can help remove these stubborn fatty deposits – although it should not be used as a weight loss substitute. Controlled dieting and exercise are the optimum weight loss tools.

Your Cosmetic Surgeon will make a small cut in the relevant area and insert a cannula (tube), which is connected to a sophisticated vacuum pump and breaks up and removes unwanted fat cells. After the removal of the fat, the cut is stitched and bandaged.
This fat removal procedure is normally performed under a general anaesthetic, although it can be performed under a local if a very small deposit of fat is to be removed. Your Cosmetic Surgeon will advise you accordingly.
Baddow Hospital offers two main methods of Liposuction:
Traditional Liposuction is the most commonly used method of fat removal and involves the surgeon manually manipulating the cannula (tube) to extract fatty deposits.
MicroAire Liposuction is a powered system which clinical evidence and surgeon testimony indicate is not only easier for surgeons but is also less traumatic to patients – and more efficient for both.
What our patients say
“What a pleasurable experience. I would definitely recommend family and friends to have an Operation at Baddow Hospital.”
Recovering from Liposuction Surgery
At Baddow Hospital, most of our liposuction operations are day case procedures so you should be able to go home a few hours after surgery. Your wound areas will initially be supported by an external corset (or an equivalent support garment), which will provide protection. About a week after Liposuction Surgery, you will need to return to Baddow Hospital to have your stitches removed.
You should not embark upon any strenuous activity for a few weeks after your operation and we would encourage you take a full week off work to give your body the opportunity to recover. You can expect some bruising and swelling but this should gradually subside.
