General Surgery Introduction
General Surgery is a surgical specialty in it’s own right, that focuses on the contents of the abdominal structures and includes organs such as the esophagus, small bowel, stomach, colon, liver, pancreas, gallbladder and bile ducts, as well as the thyroid gland. As such this requires a broad depth of knowledge and familiarity over a large range of diseases and anatomical conditions, covering such diverse presentations as hernias to appendicitis.
It is quite usual for consultant general surgeons to sub-specialise in one of the key modality areas of vascular, endocrine, oncological and gastrointestinal work, as is the case with those general surgeons consulting at Baddow Hospital. Our General Surgeons
