Starting a family is an exciting time but around 20% of couples of reproductive age have difficulty in conceiving due to a multitude of reasons.
In a third of infertile couples the problem is due to the male, in a third it is due to the female and in the remaining third there may be a joint problem or the cause may be unexplained. Smoking, stress, sexually transmitted infections and weight problems can all affect male and female fertility.
With female infertility, as well as problems with the reproductive system, infertility in women can also be linked to age – the biggest decrease in fertility occurs during a woman’s mid-thirties.
At Baddow Hospital, our initial investigations into fertility issues include an assessment of both partners using blood tests, ultrasound scans, checks of the fallopian tubes and / or sperm count.
As part of your journey towards starting a family, we are here to provide active treatment, advice, planning and any ongoing support you may need. If our initial assessment does not yield results, we can consult on further treatment and, if necessary, refer you to doctors who can help with assisted conception, including IUI (intra-uterine insemination) and IVF (in vitro fertilization).
While these are just some of the more common conditions and treatments we offer, we would be happy to help you with any concerns you may have about your body. Contact us today to learn more about what we have to offer you and your future health.
